National Geographic is having some fun with one of their newest PR stunts. By building an augmented reality set-up, with the help from company Appshaker, visitors at the mall experienced a shocking surprise; they were able to see animals, both alive and extinct, come to life before their very eyes. Not only animals, but also weather systems and even the historic moon walk. Check out the video below

Animals on the Underground

Animals on the Underground are animals created using only the tube lines, stations and junctions of the London Underground Map. Paul Middlewick who first spotted them in 1988 has a great imagination. The original animal, the elephant was discovered while Paul was staring at the tube map during his daily journey home from work. Since then, the elephant has been joined by many others from bats to bottlenose whales .

3D Building Projections

This is a new form of art to me but I think the results look amazing. These 3D projections are custom made for each building through a process of 3D mapping which is then used as the basis for the artwork presented. I think you’ll agree, the end results are staggering. It seems to be becoming more popular nowadays as a striking new form of advertising or as a performance piece in its own right.

When I saw this title sequence made up out of very simple shapes i was inspired to have a go at After Effects. This piece was made by a student at Vancouver Film School and uses thousands of keyframes. Truly brilliant piece of work

Sparth

Sparth is the name used by French artist, Nicolas Bouvier on all his work. He is a fantastic sci-fi artist and concept designer for the gaming industry. His digital art has a fantastic organic quality to it that I find most appealing. He has a book of his work out called “Structura” that I thoroughly recommend.

The Mondri and Elano Hotel: Las Vegas

Although Vegas is known for its surreal architecture and mega-resorts, this hotel brings a fresh new look to a thriving city. As part of an invited competition, JDS/Julien de Smedt Architects has designed this proposal for the Mondri and Elano Hotel in Las Vegas. They wanted to create a genuine experience while extracting the identity of the Mondrian and the Delano Hotels without producing copycat versions.
